GRINDING STUMPS FAST

Grinding a stump is a complicated process because a lot depends on its size, location, root system, and density of the wood. Smaller or older trees are easier to grind because they’re lighter and not as dense. They also have weaker root systems, which makes it easier for people to chain the stump to a four-wheel-drive truck and pull.

Pulling a stump out will take some preparation, as you will need to cut wood to reduce volume, dig around it to loosen the soil, pull out or cut some roots by hand before using a vehicle. This process doesn’t take much time, but you need to be careful. The force of the vehicle pulling out the stump may send debris flying in all directions.

Grinding is the second, less invasive option. A stump grinding machine grounds down the stump and top of the roots, though not all of the roots are removed. However, they will start to decompose underground over the coming years.

This depends on the size of your stump and how accessible it is. On average, it can take around two hours to grind a reasonably sized stump down to dust and chips. Smaller trees that are around 10 to 15 inches in diameter can take around 15-20 minutes. Large trees with a diameter spanning several feet can easily take up an entire workday.
